DIY: The simplest way to crochet a basket

If you are a beginner at crocheting and you don’t know where to start and what to try, this super easy crochet tutorial is for you. As you know, my husband and I moved into our apartment not long ago and I just needed some baskets to keep small items in the closet, like socks for instance:)¬† Crocheting a basket is so easy that I made three of them in one day. To make it quickly, I used thick yarn and thick bamboo hooks. Below you’ll find a description of how to crochet baskets. You can make baskets of different dimensions, colours and yarns, using the same pattern. Use them to keep wardrobe items, jewelry, toys, fabrics, plants and whatever else you want! I will be happy to hear about your experiences!

DIY. Description.
*SC = Single Crochet
To begin: Chain 4. Close the chain into circle with a slip stitch in first chain stitch.
Rnd 1. 2 SC in each chain stitch  = 8 stitches total.
Now you need to add 8 stitches in every row. So, after round 2 you must have 16 stitches total. After round 3 – 24 stitches total, then 32, 40, 48, 56…etc.
Rnd 2. 1 SC in next stitch, 2 SC in next stitch x repeat until you have 16 stitches total.
Rnd 3. 1 SC in next stitch, 1 SC in next stitch, 2 SC in next stitch… again 1 SC, 1 SC, 2 SC x repeat until 24 stitches total.
Rnd 4. 1 SC, 1 SC, 1 SC, 2 SC x repeat until you have 32 stitches total.
Rnd 5. 1 SC, 1 SC, 1 SC, 1 SC, 2 SC and repeat until 40 stitches total.
Continue in the same way until you have the needed number of total stitches. This makes the bottom of your basket. When it is done, just continue working with SC around. When you reach the height you want, weave in ends, turn back the edging of the basket and you can start using it!:)

I made 3 baskets of different sizes. The biggest one has 72 stitches in total at the bottom. The blue one has 56 stitches and the smallest one has 48 stitches.
Tip: Use 2 hooks of different sizes. I used a hook 9 to make the bottom and a hook 7 for the the main part. By doing that, you’ll make your basket more stable.
