Classic Granny Square Pattern

Some time ago I started a new crochet baby blanket and I thought why not to share with you a classic granny square pattern. Clearly, advanced knitters know this pattern well, but it can be very useful for beginners. Crocheting a granny is fast, easy and gives you the opportunity to fancy up infinite combinations of color. You can use grannies to make blankets, cushions, purses, clothing, toys and many other funny things.
There are many different variations of granny squares, but I prefer to use double crochet stitches. If you decide to make a multicolored square, remember that the fiber contents of the yarn should be the same, or compatible. I’m working with semi-woollen baby yarn and a hook number 5. As a color combination I chose: turquoise for the centre, dark grey for the middle and white for the edge. I’m going to join the squares with the white color as well. I think this kind of palette will suit both boys and girls. I hope you’ll find my pattern useful and accessible. The classic granny square pattern is just below the pictures, so…go ahead and don’t be shy to ask me questions if something is not clear;)
